Let the rulebook be your guide...BUT..

Plan ahead.. meaning if you plan to step up someday, it might be better to buy the suit you are GOING to need..
Lots of difference between "over 7.50" and "under 7.50"..

I have all G-force safety apparel, the quality is good and the price is not bad. Also as stated over doing is not a bad idea.

I've got the G-Force "Pro" 545 suit. Rated the same, but lighter and cooler than their std stuff. Very happy with it. I think David Willingham bought the same kind. Have had Simpson, RCI and Impact in the past. Like this better than Simpson and RCI. I liked the Impact stuff, but won't buy anything from them the way they screwed over many racers due to having fake SFI suits that they would not replace when it was discovered.

Shoes are also G-Force Pro 0236. These are the only ones I have found in the "reasonable" price range that have smooth leather vs the suede of most shoes. Stay cleaner easier.

Gloves are Peak Racing Equipment.

Helmet is a Simpson Bandit. Simpson neck collar.

On the rating, as said, extra is good. A big part of of it is what type racing. A -5 suit is good for down to 7.50 1/4 and 4.50 1/8. Quicker than that is a -15. If you plan to run some of the Super Quick series...Isn't the quickest you can a 4.50?...if so, then a -5 works. Top Dragster on the 1/4 would be faster than 7.50, so a -15 is required.

From the 2012 NHRA rulebook:

"9.99 (*6.39) to 7.50 (*4.50) front-engine open-bodied vehicles with nitrous oxide, supercharger, or turbocharger(s): Jacket and pants meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/15, gloves, and shoes or boots meeting SFI Spec 3.3/5 mandatory."

OR

"9.99 (*6.39) to 7.50 (*4.50) closed-bodied vehicles without an OEM or full .024-inch steel firewall with nitrous oxide, supercharger, or turbocharger(s): Jacket and pants meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/15, gloves meeting SFI Spec 3.3/5, and shoes or boots meeting SFI Spec 3.3/5 mandatory."

OR

"9.99 and faster, any vehicle, supercharged or turbocharged with alcohol: Suit meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/15, gloves and boots meeting SFI Spec 3.3/5 mandatory."

Clarification. These are just three examples of 7.50-9.99 with poweradder or with alcohol requires SFI-15. Always check the rules for your class and vehicle. One size does not fit all.

I've been using RJS for a long time...made in Michigan. I have their shoes, pants, jacket, neck collar, belts and, window net. Good quality, reasonable price.
I use Crow gloves and have a Simpson Super Bandit helmet. Everything made in the U.S.A.

Cool thanks for the suggestion.

I just got registered to take the Frank Hawley Class in January and I'm going to try and stop by summit in GA to try on some suits and helmets to get some stuff that fits properly.
